Sports are one of the big things everyone talks about. The sports industry is one of the biggest industries in the world and athletes are most highly paid personnel. In this article, I am writing the latest news and gossip about world’s five most popular sports according to the fan base.
- Football:
Football or soccer (as known in North and Latin America) is world’s most popular sports with over 3.5 billion fans. Football is watched and followed all around the world. Footballers are most highly paid athletes. The football season is just around the corner and will start in 11 days from now onwards. Summer transfer window is open and teams are getting players and making their playing 11 stronger. Biggest sports deal has been held between Adidas and Manchester United football club. The club was associated with Nike previously but since last year, United has grabbed a deal with Adidas which is most likely the most expensive football branding deal. The UCL winners Real Madrid has appointed Zinedine Zidane as permanent head coach and manager. Zidane was appointed last year after Ancelotti left and now is appointed as head coach and manager of the club. Teams are preparing for the seasons and all the news that is coming is coming from the training grounds.
- Cricket:
With over 2.5 billion fans, cricket is also world’s most popular game although it is not played all around the world. Efforts are done to make cricket global sports but hard policies and less knowledge of the game is still a hurdle in its way to being global. Cricket is most popular in Australian continent, Asia, and Africa. It is also gaining respect in gulf countries. Since 2015, cricket season is on its climax and almost every team is playing a season this summer. Pakistani fast bowler Sohail Khan made his comeback in test team after 5 years and took 5 wickets. Sohail Khan was returned in the side after a miserable loss in Manchester and it comes out to be a worthy comeback. England are all out on 297 in the first innings and Pakistan will bat today on the second day of 3rd Investec test. Australia performed miserable against SriLanka in the first test where they made a world record of not scoring a single run in more than 190 deliveries. It seemed like Australia never wanted those runs. The whole dugout is extremely down and needs a lot of motivation. This strange attitude of dressing room leaves us thinking, is something going in the Australian dressing room?

America’s favorite and most popular sport is gaining a reputation worldwide. Basketball is already becoming famous in China and Europe. NBA is taking measures to ensure that the sport gains proper respect throughout the world. A lot of news are being rumored in NBA regarding Oklahoma city thunder’s star Russell Westbrook. Westbrook was looking forward to leaving the current team but talks have been held and Oklahoma thunders have agreed upon the deal and extended Westbrook’s contract to 2019 with 85$million. - Tennis:
The game of tolerance and skill, tennis is known to all. Olympics are starting from 5th August in Rio da Janeiro, Brazil. Tennis is included in the list of games that will be the part of Olympics. All tennis stars are preparing for the mega event. Andy Murray has been named as the flag carrier of GB in Olympics opening ceremony while Wawrinka is missing the Olympics this year due to injury. It is also rumored that Roger Federer is also not playing due to health conditions is not favorable. Federer is on rest since his French title in May this year. - Hockey:
Other global sports, world hockey federation is also trying to make this sport a worldwide brand. Hockey is also a part of Olympics 2016 and hence the less attended game will have the last laugh. Pakistan hockey federation is trying to come back in the Olympics and to earn back the gained reputation. PHF was scandalized in involving themselves in corruption and negligence. Efforts are made to earn the repute back.
