You might have noticed for the past year that a lot of people have turned to take care of plants. Everyone you know has probably started posting on social media about the plants they just bought and have documented the growth of the others. Some have probably even encouraged you to try taking care of a plant to lighten up your life. And you are actually considering it already.
But there’s a catch – you don’t know how to start and you are afraid of killing that plant. So don’t you worry for we have prepared a shortlist of low-maintenance plants that will be a great start for beginners like you!
#1 Cacti and Succulents
This has gotten really famous for the past years for a lot of beginners and veterans alike. Cacti and succulents best other plants in being low-maintenance. They can survive different conditions as long as you give them the basics- light, well-drained soil, and a little bit of water. Just make sure to put them in places where they can be exposed to light and that they are well-hydrated.
#2 Snake Plant
This plant has been a real favorite, not just because it will help beautify your place but it is also because it is a real low-maintenance, indoor plant. All you will really need is a spot for it that can catch some light. And about watering them? Try to feel its soil and see if it is already dry before watering your snake plant again.
#3 Pothos
When you ask plant parents what plants they could suggest for beginners like you, a pothos plant will definitely be one of the first things they will mention. Why? Because it just really is easy to take care of. A pothos plant would not really care where you put it since they can handle any amount of light and you just have to make sure to water it when you feel that the few inches of the soil are dry.
#4 ZZ
Just like the pothos mentioned above, ZZ plants will be one of the first plants people will recommend to you when you are starting out. Other than their classy looks, they are also just fine with any amount of light you can give them – may it be low light or bright. Just water them when you are sure that the roots are no longer wet.
#5 Monstera
If you live in a tropical place that gets very humid most of the time, then a monstera plant may just be for you! This plant does not really require bright light as it is fine with just receiving a minimal amount of it. But if you want the best results, you could station it in the corner of your place where it is bright. You can also just water this plant when you feel that the first top inch of its soil is already dry.
When you take care of plants that suit you better as a beginner, then your love for plants will soon blossom, just like them. Just remember to not stress yourself out too much and talk to them every now and then.
