Since the pandemic, closed spaces – like gyms – have been closed due to strict protocols in relation to the COVID-19 response. And for workout enthusiasts to maintain their physical fitness, they opted to workout at home or elsewhere with an open space. It actually sounds easy and very doable — but not when you have a clingy dog around you.
Dogs have always been like that and it’s just really in their nature to be involved with whatever their fur-parent is doing. It’s their way of “bonding” with you and they find it fun! And who are we to deprive them of such happiness? Here are some exercises you and your dog can enjoy together.
Running
Running is definitely the exercise that you can do with your dog that has to top the list. We know how our dogs love running around in an open space. And I bet they would enjoy it more if they could run around with you.
Not only is running a good cardio exercise for you, it is also a good way for your dog to release all those pent up energy they have inside their bodies — a.k.a. their zoomies. So get your running shoes on and run!
Biking
We know how one of the most sought gym equipment is a cycling machine or an exercise bike, right? Well, since gyms are closed now, people are having less access to that certain gym favorite and could be too expensive to purchase, that a real bike is better.
Biking is another great cardio exercise that you can enjoy with your dog. If you have a bigger dog, surely they have more energy stored in them. And if you do not run as fast, then biking is a sure way to keep up with your pooch.
Fitness Fetch
One game that dogs surely love to play is the good ol’ fetch. You throw a ball for your dog to retrieve and you wait for them to bring it back to you. But that sounds like a one-sided exercise don’t you think?
Well, how about we mix it up a bit? Throw a ball for your dog to run after and bring back to you, but while waiting, throw in some squats, burpees, or jumping jacks in the mix.
Stair-exercises
Have you ever seen one of those sports advertisements where the athlete is running up and down the bleachers of stadiums? Now, picture them with a dog beside them doing the same exercises.
That is definitely one exercise you can do with your dog. And if you have stairs at home, you won’t need to go out anymore! Just make sure to be careful as to not let you and your dog have an accident.
“Doga”
Doga or Dog Yoga is an exercise that has been going around the internet lately. It is just like yoga that you would do but with your dog joining you. Just lay your mat somewhere in your house and let your dog stay beside you.
Do some stretches and see if your dog will follow. Sometimes, a dog massage is usually mixed up with it, too. They don’t call a yoga pose a “downward dog” for nothing. Making time for your dog is one thing, but doing something together to bond is another thing for them. We hope this has helped you create an experience with your pup.
